Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Fresh tomatoes from the farmer's market! (I'm pretty sure that if you didn't process this in the blender and let it cool, you'd wind up with salsa.)

Here's a tip learned the hard way: when a recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of chopped red pepper, do not, under any circumstances, substitute CRUSHED red pepper (you know, the kind you find in the herbs and spices section?) When they crush those red peppers, they include the seeds, which is where all of the heat comes from. These burgers wound up about five times spicier than they should have been!

Post-Marathon Protein

Back when I was in high school one of my favorite places to eat was Jack's Barbecue on Portland and NW 39th. (It closed a few years ago and has since re-opened under new owners.) I won't disclose exactly how, but I recently acquired the recipe for the barbecue sauce from back in the day. Delish!

As I waddled around the house after the marathon, craving meat like crazy, I made the above Polish Sausage and Ham sandwiches. It was like I was 18 again.
